Bantwal: Container truck runs amuck on NH 75 at Arkula; 5 people die, 3 critical

Bantwal, 11 Jun 2016: Five people died and 3 persons were critically injured in a ghastly road mishap on Mangaluru – Bengaluru NH 75 at Arkula – Valacchil, near Farangipet, about 10 kilometers away from Mangaluru city, here on Friday June 10.
A marauding container truck hit the divider and ran amuck on the traffic in opposite direction; hit an auto rickshaw and a Maruti car.
The deceased has been identified as 29-year-old Mohammed Nazir, son of Yusuf, resident of Sajipa, near here, 20-year-old Mohammed Salam, son of Siddiq, resident of Nandavar, 16-year-old Sinan, son of Hameed – all were travelling in the auto rickshaw; 40-year-old Abbas, a native of Vittal who was travelling in the Maruti car and pedestrian 20-year-old Ibrahim, a resident of Beerpugudde, Adyar, at the outskirts of Mangaluru.
Three persons who were fatally injured are battling for life in ICU at a private hospital in Mangaluru city.
Background of mishap
The truck was plying from B C Road towards Mangaluru, when the driver lost the control as he approached near Yashasvi Hall, Valacchil, near here. The truck hit the divider and hit the auto rickshaw and Maruti car plying in opposite direction. The auto rickshaw and Maruti car was pulled away by the truck for a few meters.
Mangaluru rural police have arrived at the spot and taken control of the situation. The truck driver fled from the scene soon after the mishap.
The armed policemen were deployed at the spot as the mob would return to burn the truck.
The state health minister U T Khader expressed condolences to the grieving victim’s families. He informed that the medical officers were instructed to carry out the autopsy without delay at the earliest.
