Hundreds take part in rally held against Yettinahole Project
Mangaluru, 17 May 2016: Several people including political representatives took part in a massive rally held in the city against the Yettinahole Project on Monday.
The rally organized by the Nethravati Rakshana Samyukta Samiti began at Jyothi and culminated at the Deputy Commissioner’s office.
Addressing the gathering, Vijaya Kumar Shetty, president of NRSS said that they aimed at stopping the diversion of the Netravathi River. He added that Chief Minister and the district in-charge minister have to understand the people’s problems. He said that Ramanath Rai had to stop the Yettinahole Project and if he was not able to do so, had to resign from his post.
Sri Gurudevananda Swamiji of Odiyoor Math said that if the project was not dropped soon, in the coming days they might also ghero Vidhana Soudha.
Activist MG Hegde said that several projects that began in the district were left incomplete and the Yettinahole would also be one among them.
Sathyajith Surthkal stated that if the project was dropped and the government sent representatives to address people’s pleas, they would consider withdrawing the voluntary bandh called on May 19.
The protestors demanded that the Deputy Commissioner came and received the memorandum. DC AB Ibrahim then arrived and accepted the memorandum and assured of sending it the CM.
MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLA JR Lobo, Krishna Palemar and others were present for the rally.
