Bhadravathi boy scores 625/625

• 2% dip in SSLC results, Bengaluru Rural tops, Ballari at bottom

 

Bengaluru, 17 May 2016 (DHNS): Ranjan B S of the Poornapragna Vidya Samsthe, Bhadravathi, made history by being the first to score cent per cent marks in the SSLC exams.

 

Ranjan scored 625 out of 625 marks to top the Secondary School Leaving Certificate exam this year.

Yashoda Bopanna, director, Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board (KSEEB) said that for the first time since the establishment of KSEEB in 1969, a student has scored cent per cent score. Seven students from various districts have scored 624 marks for the second position while 8 students have scored 623.

 

There has been a 2% dip in results for April 2016 compared with the previous academic year. The state has reported a pass percentage of 79.16.

 

 

The results were made available online and through text messages to rural students on Monday. On Tuesday, the official marks list would be sent to all schools across the state at 10.30 am.

 

Girl students in the state continued to score better than boys even this year, according to statistics provided by the KSEEB. While the pass percentage of boys is 75.84, that of girls is 82.64.

 

Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Kimmane Ratnakar told reporters after declaring the results that students from rural areas have performed better compared to those from urban areas. While Bengaluru Rural district tops the list at 89.63% followed by Udupi at 89.52%, Ballari district reported the lowest pass percentage at 56.68.

 

The overall pass percentage is the lowest in the last three years. Speaking about the drop in percentage, Ratnakar said this showed that there was an improvement in the way the exams were conducted.

 

“It is not the number of children who pass that is important. Quality matters,” he added.

 

As many as 52 schools in the state have recorded zero percent results of which, three are government schools, six aided and 43 unaided schools. Of the 2,707 differently abled children who took the exam, 1,647 of them have passed.

 

Meanwhile, of the 652 candidates in the age group of 40 and above who appeared as private candidates, only 23 cleared the exams.
