Puttur lass wins laurels at Science fair in Texas
Texas/Puttur, 02 May 2016: 14-year-old Aneesha Nayak has made her taluk, district and nation proud after winning the bronze medal at the International Sustainable World (Energy Engineering Environment) Project Olympiad (I-SWEEP) held at Houston, Texas, United States from April 26 to May 1.
Aneesha is a student at Sudana Residential School, Puttur and will soon step into SSLC during the academic year of 2016-17.
Aneesha bagged the bronze medal for her project titled ‘Hydrophobicity of Colocasia Esculenta leaves as a wall protector’ under the ‘Environment-Management and Pollution’ category. Sadhana Hebbar, a Science teacher at her school, was her guide.
It is said that as many as 585 projects from 62 countries were part of the competition.
Aneesha’s mother Shaila Bhakta said, “I feel proud of my daughter. It is an honour for the country.” She added that her daughter was one among the two girls who represented the country at the competition and it was Aneesha’s first attempt at I-SWEEP.
She further said that Aneesha would return to Mangaluru on May 4.
Apart from being a brilliant student, Aneesha is also an Asian-level surfer and a member of Mantra Surf Club in Mulky.
I-SWEEEP is the largest Science fair competition open to high school students. It is organised by Harmony Public Schools, a K-12 Public Charter School System.
