Karkala: Varanasi clergy Fr Augustine D’Souza of Belman celebrates 50 years of priesthood

Karkala, 15 April 2016: Fr Augustine D’Souza, who served as clergy in Varanasi diocese of North India for 50 years was felicitated during a function held at St Joseph’s parish, Belman, near here on Thursday April 14.

 

Fr Augustine was the alumnus of St Joseph’s Higher Primary School, Belman, near here. He was born in a poor family, but pursued studies with the encouragement of the late Fr Thomas D’Sa, the former parish priest of Belman.

 

 

After his ordination, Fr Augustine served as lecturer, principal and secretary of Varanasi Catholic Education Board. He was felicitated by his family and relatives, nuns of Belman convent and well wishers.

 

Earlier, Fr Augustine concelebrated the Thanksgiving Mass to celebrate his sacerdotal golden jubilee along with Belman parish priest Fr Lawrence B D’Souza, assistant parish priests Fr John Baptist Moras and Fr John Fernandes, other clergies before the simple function.

 

Fr Lawrence presided the function held after the Holy Mass.

 

Mangaluru AIR announcer Concepta Fernandes welcomed the gathering. The veteran education expert Antony Mendonca introduced the dignitaries. Belman parish council vie president Gregory Menezes, Sr Alphonsa, Pascal Fernandes, Bernard D’Souza, Sr Immaculate, Gregory D’Souza conveyed best wishes to Fr Augustine.

 

The national award winning teacher George Castelino Nakre compered the programme. Professor Robert D’Souza proposed vote of thanks.
