MIT student creates world’s longest selfie stick at 10.39 mts
Manipal, 12 April 2016: A final semester Electrical and Electronics Engineering (B.Tech) student from Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) might enter the Guinness World Records after he created the world’s longest selfie stick. The stick was demonstrated at the MIT grounds on Monday.
Armaan, son of Mohammed Soorinje and Rehana from Mangaluru, created the selfie stick that measured 10.39 meters, thus making it the world’s largest selfie stick as the present Guinness World Record stands at 8.56 meters, one that was created by Ben Stiller from USA.
Guinness World Records accepted an application that Armaan had sent to them a month ago regarding creating the longest selfie stick. He then began working on it and made about 7-8 trials. Armaan had initially planned on using steel, but it was too heavy and then switched to aluminum as it was lighter and stronger.
After preparing the stick, he practiced using it for a week. Armaan has said that if his achievement was recognized, he would try making a 12-metre long selfie stick.
Armaan’s demonstration of the selfie stick was photographed and video-graphed to be sent to Guinness World Records; there were also 6 witnesses present, SJ Kumaraswamy, Deputy Superintendent of Police, GK Prabhu, Director of MIT, BHV Pai, Joint Director, Narayan Shenoy, Associate Director, BK Singh, Professor of Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Indrali Jayakar Shetty, General Manager of Badagabettu Credit Cooperative Society Ltd.
Armaan is also a member of the student team ‘Formula Manipal’ of MIT, which designed a formula racing car.
