Puttur: Govt First Grade College, Vamadapadav wins Championship at Folk Games Festival

Puttur, 19 March 2016: The Humanities Association of St Philomena College here organized an inter-collegiate Folk Games Festival at the College grounds here on March 15.
The Registrar of Karnataka Tulu Sahithya Academy Chandrahasa Rai inauguarated the festival and said ‘There are a number of traditional folk games played by the rural children of Tulu Nadu. A complete documentation and descriptive study of these folk games would help in the process of preservation and transmission of traditional knowledge.’
The campus director Fr Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro was the chief guest of the occasion. St Philomena PU College principal Fr Vijay Lobo was the guest of honor. The principal Professor Leo Noronha presided the function.
The convener of Humanities Association Professor Subair welcomed the gathering. Rakesh Rao proposed the vote of thanks. Akshatha Sharma compered the programme.
In the valedictory programme, correspondent Fr Alfred J Pinto presided the function. The principal Professor Leo Noronha was the chief guest. The vice principal Professor Vishnu Bhat was the guest of honor.
Professor Subair welcomed the gathering. Professor Norbert Mascarenhas of department of history proposed the vote of thanks. Akshatha Sharma and Deepika compered the programme.
Traditional and folk games of Tulu Nadu such as ‘chenne Mane’, ‘goni cheela ota’, ‘lagori’, ‘madake odeyuvudu’, ‘suji dara ota’ ‘kaayi kuttuvudu’ and ‘pencil art’ were played by the participants.
Another highlight of the programme was the variety of dishes of Tulunadu which were served as breakfast and lunch to the participants. They included ‘padengi upkari’, ‘ bajil’, ‘ganji’ , ‘chatni ‘, ‘uppad’, ‘mundi palya’, ‘ale’ and ‘payasa.’
Among ten teams participated in this inter-collegiate competition, Government First Grade College, Vamadapadavu bagged the overall championship. Ramakunjeshwara College, Ramakunja secured the Runners up trophy.
