Bantwal: Truck loaded with watermelons runs amok; bystander fatally injured

Bantwal, 16 March 2016: A truck loaded with watermelons ran amok, hit the bus stand and electric pole and rolled over besides the road at B C Road, near Talapady, here on Tuesday March 15 afternoon.

 

As a result 34-year-old Satish Shetty, a resident of Kuppila who was waiting for bus at the bus stand was fatally injured. He was rushed to a hospital in Mangaluru.

 

 

The bus stand and electric pole was fully damaged. The locals rushed the critically injured Satish to the hospital, as the driver and cleaner of truck fled from the scene.

 

Bantwal mobile traffic police sub-inspector Chandrashekarayya and circle inspector Belliyappa have visited the spot.

Locals feasted on watermelons

As the crane was straightening the overturned truck, the watermelons started pouring from its payload. The locals carried away as many watermelons as the truck driver and cleaners fled from the spot soon after the mishap fearing mob fight.
