Mumbai: Women are pillar of society - Janet D’Souza

Mumbai, 08 Mar 2016: Judean Women Cell (JWC) of St Jude’s parish, Jerimeri, Andheri (East) celebrated their first anniversary along with International Women’s Day here on Sunday March 6.
The programme commenced with a solemn Holy Mass in Hindi celebrated by Jerimeri parish priest Fr Lancy Pinto on Sunday at 5.00pm.
Fr Pinto in his homily said, ‘Men and women are two sides of the same coin, God created men and women of his own image and without men, there can’t be a women and without women, there can’t be a men, so in a family there should not be any partiality between woman and man as they both are equal. He also gave an example of a Dharavi family on the theme of the day about forgiveness.
The members of Cell offered different articles to distribute among the less fortunate in the society.
After the Holy Mass, stage programme was held at Quadrangle Hall of the parish.
The stage programme began with a prayer dance presented by the member’s children, directed by Sr Dominica.
Janet D’Souza, President of Maharashtra Women’s Congress and vice chairperson of Maharashtra state Minority Commission along with other dignitaries Fr Lancy Pinto, Sr Seema, Sr Dominica, Sr Tejaswini, Fr Gabriel, Bro Kanakia Das and Flora D’Souza, co-ordinator of the Cell inaugurated the programme.
JWC founder Sr Seema the gathering and spoke on the significance of International Women’s Day celebration.
Sr Seeman was honored for dedicating her service to Jagruti Kendra in reaching out to the needy, empowering women and also for her whole hearted support and direction to the Cell.
JWC also honored Rani Fernando, Core Committee member for her selfless service in all the all parish activities.
Rita D’Souza was honored for taking care of her husband who was paralyzed due to an accident in Kuwait on Good Friday April 3, 2015.
Sunita J Fernandes Gansoli has conduced a session on self defense how to tackle daily misbehavior of a stranger during our journey or in the crowd.
The secretaries Sheila Chettiar and Maria D’Costa presented the report of the year explained about various activities, medical camps (cancer screening), seminars, yoga classes provided to the parishioners and also member’s participation in various programmes.
Speaking on the occasion, Janet D’Souza stressed upon that the woman is an important pillar of society, bestowed upon capability of playing multiple roles such as mother, wife, sister, daughter, friend and a professional in her respective role at work place. She has the power to create, nurture and transform. She also said that there are many women who have no proper access to the education, health care and equal opportunity and if any help is required in women empowerment, women upliftment, she is ready to help this Cell at any time. She congratulated Judean Women Cell in this regard.
As part of cultural event, Tamil and Konkani dances were presented by the respective members’ added spark to the event. JWC thanked choreographers Leena Fernando, Jovila D’Souza and choir leader Freida D’Souza.
On behalf of parishners and participants, Gracy spoke about the performance of Judean Women Cell.
