Bantwal: Ghastly accident on Kalladka - Kanhangad inter-state highway; 2 die

Bantwal, 07 Mar 2016: In a ghastly road mishap, a moped rider and his pillion rider were instantly killed at a steep curve located in Maira, near Padibagilu, on Kalladka – Kanhangad inter-state highway, here on Sunday March 6.
The deceased has been identified as 35-year-old Umesh Naik, a resident of Pandigaya in Kukke village and 47-year-old Vasant Naik, a resident of Chekkutti in Punacha village.
Vittal police registered a case against 30-year-old Tallat, a resident of Koornadka in Puttur taluk, for reckless driving and over speeding.
Umesh and Vasant were returning to their home at Sardka, after attending an auspicious programme in their relative’s house in Vamanjoor, at the limits of Mangaluru town. The ghastly accident occurred in a steep curve located at Maira, when their moped was hit by a Maruti car. Tallat was driving the car towards Puttur from Kasargod with 5 women and 3 children. The moped rider was dragged nearly 20 feet away and the pillion rider was thown away in the gorge of 10 feet deep.
Despite the critically injured were taken to the hospital, they were pronounced dead upon arrival as both got head injuries and died owing to blood loss.
Umesh was married 4 years ago. He is survived by his wife and 2 daughters. Vasant is survived by his wife, two sons and one daughter.
