Bantwal: Woman drowns whilst fetching water from open well in Ira village

Bantwal, 25 Feb 2016: A woman whilst fetching water from an open well using a rope was drown in Ira village, near here on Wednesday February 24.
The deceased has been identified as 24-year-old Babita, a resident of Kinnigoli in Mangaluru taluk.
Babita hailed from Ira village married to a groom from Kinnigoli 4 years ago. They have a 2-year-old baby. Babita along with her husband and baby arrived at her parent’s house in Ira village, to partake in the annual festivities at Somanateshwar temple in Ira village.
Meanwhile, Babita’s husband returned to Kinnigoli on Tuesday February 23 itself leaving his wife and daughter at his in-law’s home. Babita was supposed to return to her husband’s home on Wednesday itself. However, the fate has its turn, when she had gone to fetch water from an open well that lies about a half furlong, the wooden beam broke and Babita fell into the well along with rope and vessel.
Although the locals rescued Babita who was battling for life and taken to the hospital, the doctors pronounced her brought dead.
Bantwal rural police arrived at the spot and investigations are underway at the direction of SI Rakshit Gowda.
It’s significant that no sooner the news spread, the local resident Ibrahim risked his life in bringing Babita from the bottom of the well. The incident proved humanity prevails regardless of caste, creed and faith.
