Unbelievable! Snapdeal offers iPhone 5s Gold at Rs 68; student grabs the offer
Mumbai, 19 Feb 2016: Nikhil Bansal, a B.Tech student at Punjab University just got lucky when he found an Apple iPhone 5s Gold up for grabs at just Rs 68!!!
Nikhil who happened to be casually browsing through the Snapdeal website found this mind boggling offer on February 12 and he immediately placed an order for the product. This, however, was an error on the retailer’s part, which resulted in the availability of the iPhone at a discounted price of Rs 68 (99.7pc discount).
Despite an order being placed, the Indian e-commerce giant did not deliver the product nor revert to Nikhil, who after waiting for a few days realized it might have been a technical fault of the website.
Nikhil, however, decided to take the matter further and he filed a complaint at the Punjab Sangrur district’s consumer court against Snapdeal for not honouring the deal.
Interestingly, the court ruled in favor of Nikhil and ordered Snapdeal to sell the smartphone at the aforementioned price and also to pay a fine of Rs 2,000.
The company tried to retaliate the order by filing their appeal in another consumer forum, but however, again happened to land on the receiving end. This time the other court ordered them to pay Rs 10,000 as fine for failing to deliver the phone at the promised price.
Earlier, there have been incidents where consumers have got bricks and empty boxes in place of a smartphone or any other device. This instance should however teach a lesson to all e-commerce retailers to inspect the listed products in the website properly.
