Doha/Qatar, 24 Jan 2016: Mangalore Cultural Association (MCA) organized its annual picnic for members, their families and friends at Simaisma Gardens near Al Khor here on Friday  January 22. The day long fun-filled event included various games and entertainment that were thoroughly enjoyed by children and adults alike.

Everyone gathered at the pick-up point near Family Food Center in Airport Road at 8.00am and from there they all enjoyed the joyful bus ride to the picnic venue as they played anthkshari on the way. Upon reaching at Sumaisma gardens breakfast was served.

MCA president Arthur Pais after his welcome address has co-ordinated the entire event. Two teams were formed - MCA Tigers led by Merlyn D’Souza and MCA Panthers led by Sandeep Noronha. Shalini and Suzan conducted various fun games competitions between 2 teams.

Many innovative games were held such as balloon race of couples, creating human chain along with any material resources with the teams, passing of water through pouring into cups, untying of rope knots, dog and the bone, writing of names of animals that does not have alphabet ‘A’ in one minute, team orange eating race, placing balls in bin with legs only, hopping race, kho-kho and writing family tree in Konkani in one minute.

By then, it was time for lunch and the delicious lunch was served for all. After lunch, every one relaxed on the lawn and enjoyed the skits played by both teams. MCA Tigers played the skit on the topic ‘Parents Teachers Association Meeting’ and MCA Panthers played the skit on the topic ‘Nursery School’.

The fun continued thereafter with the ‘tug of war’ which was the highlight of MCA picnic. It was a tough battle as both teams flexed their muscles and pulled to their strength. Supporters of both teams cheered as they pulled the rope and it was great fun. Refreshments were served, which re-energized all. After all the games were completed surprisingly both teams had won the same total 140 points each and it was a tie between the two teams.

Finally everyone went to the beach nearby and relaxed there sitting on the sands before the calm sea, cracking some jokes. The fantastic day that was enjoyed by all had to end and it was time to go back home. Everyone then boarded the bus and returned back to Doha.
