Udupi: St Mary’s College, Shirva celebrates Indian Armed Forces Day

Udupi, 22 Jan 2016: The farmers are the backbone of the nation while the armed forces provide security cover. The students ought to come forward to serve the nation by utilizing the opportunities. We should learn the importance of sacrifices in life, said librarian Sridar Hegde.
Hegde was speaking during Indian Armed Forces Day celebrations held at St Mary’s College, Shirva, near here on Thursday January 21.
St Mary’s College principal Professor Rajan V N in his presidential address lauded the contributions of NCC. He also explained how NCC cadets get jobs in armed forces.
Lieutenant Professor K Praveen Kumar in his presidential address recalled the farsightedness of first Indian Field Marshal K M Kariappa in forming the army. He also said, ‘It’s our duty to acknowledge the selfless service of armed personnel who died serving the nation.’
CPL Vishwanat who bagged gold in adventure camp that was organized by 21 Karnataka battalion NCC Udupi at Manali, Himachal Pradesh, from 20 December 2015 to 3 January 2016, Sergeant Sandesh Lance Corporal Renish Maria Baretto who represented St Mary’s College in IGC camp at Mysuru recently were felicitated on the same occasion.
NCC junior division Second Officer John William, Cadet Senior Officer Harshan, Cadet Junior under Officer Sharat Kumar was present.
Cadet Ancita rendered the prayers. Cadet Junior under Officer Franny Riona Martis welcomed the gathering. Sergeant Teerta proposed vote of thanks. Sergeant Deepa compered the programme.
