Mumbai, 06 Jan 2016: If India perishes then the entire world will perish. If India survives, the world will live on. Our culture will sustain neighbourly relations with other nations. The need of the hour is to develop values in sustaining our culture and tradition. Culture is the root and education is its fruit. Kannada culture was ever prevalent in Mumbai, based on pre-Independence era, said Haridas K Sanjeev Shetty, retired principal of Satya Sai Lok Seva Vidya Kendra, Alake, Mangaluru.
Haridas was speaking during Sahitya Sahavasa Sambrama – 2016, annual literary and cultural extravaganza of Karnatkaa High School, run by Karnataka Sangh Chembur® at the high school premises, Chembur, here on Saturday January 2 evening.
Y G Shetty Top Teacher Award was conferred to Dr Vani Ucchilkar, Arate Nagamma Sesappa Poojary Memorial Award conferred to Dr Jayaprakash Narayan Tottettody, correspondent of Vidyavardaka Higher Primary School, Miyyapadav, Kasrgod, Subbayya Shetty Endowment Award was conferred on Yakshagana artiste K K Shetty.
National Kannada Ratna was announced to confer on Supreme Court retired Justice Dr Shivaraj V Patil.
The honorary general secretary Ranjan Kumar Amin, treasurer T R Shetty, joint secretary Devdas K Shettigar, joint treasurer Sundar N Kotian and others were present at the dais.
The students rendered the prayers. The cultural Committee secretary Dayasagar Chowta welcomed the gathering and compered the programme.
Variety cultural shows and entertainment events were held on the occasion.
