Udupi: Bishop Dr Gerald Lobo urges to respect other religions, accept truth

Udupi, 21 Dec 2015: India is a most beautiful nation in the world. The air, water, soil, animals and birds all have sacredness. It has several languages, over 3,000 castes and also over above sub-castes, besides it’s the cradle of many religions.
Although people follow their own traditions and customs, religious practices; there lies unity in diversity since ancient times. Every religion has truth that got to be respected and acknowledged, said Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, bishop of Udupi diocese.
The bishop Dr Lobo was speaking during the Christmas get-together that was jointly organized by Catholic Sabha Udupi Pradesh® in association with Shirva parish unit of Catholic Sabha at nearby Shirva gram panchayat office, here on Saturday December 19 evening.
Khatib Moulana Sirajuddin Zaini of Sunni Jamia masjid, Shirva, near here said that Shirva locality is known for communal harmony, while Hindus, Muslims and Christians celebrate their festivals with get-togethers of people of different faith. Islam propagates peace and does not promote terrorism. Islam teaches to feed the hungry neighbor before one could have food. The humanity thrives in co-existence of people of different faith in the society, said Khatib Moulana Sirajuddin.
Lions Club International district former governor Indrali Jayakar Shetty said that the essence of all religious lies in accepting the good in different religions and to live and let other live.
Shirva parish priest Fr Stany Tauro delivered the Christmas message.
Stany Pinto, Catholic Sabha central Committee president William Machado, Leo Noronha and zonal president Melvyn Aranha were present.
Shirva parish Catholic Sabha unit president Leena Machado welcomed the gathering. The secretary Loretta D’Souza proposed vote of thanks. The teacher Gilbert Pinto compered the programme.
