Mangaluru, 14 Dec 2015: Asha Kiran Charitable Trust, Chikmagaluru emerged as overall champions of the Kalarava - 2015, state-level inter-school Cultural Fest for Visually Impaired.


Sahodaya – an outreach programme of St Aloysius College (Autonomous) here organized Kalarava - 2015 here on Sunday December 13. The programme was inaugurated by the chief guest Ramya Aithal, English lecturer Government PU College, Balmatta, here.

The guest of honor was Dr Alwyn D’Sa, Dean of Art Faculty. Fr Swebert D’Silva SJ, principal of St Aloysius College presided the function.


There were 7 events: group singing, story reciting, mono acting, solo singing, quiz, mimicry and group dance.


Six Schools for Visually Impaired from all over Karnataka participated in the Fest. The schools which participated in the events were Asha Kiran Charitable Trust Chikmagaluru, Rangarao Memorial School for Disabled, Deepa Academy for the Differently-Abled, Maheshwari School for the Blind - Belgaum, Samarthana Trust for the Disabled, Roman and Catherine Lobo School for the Blind here.


The overall champions of this programme were Asha Kiran Charitable Trust and the runner up was bagged by Deepa Academy for the Differently Abled.


The valedictory programme of this event was held at the College on Sunday evening. Fr Swebert D’Silva SJ presided the function.


Dr Charles Furtado, founder of Sahodaya, A M Narahari, Registrar of St Aloysius College (Autonomous), Pricilla D’Silva, co-ordinator of co-curricular activities were the guest of honor.


Dhiraj Sequeira and Felita Monis, presidents of Sahodaya, Joyson D’Souza and Arpitha, secretaries of the association were present on the dais.

 

The event was intended to bring together the talented visually impaired students from the entire state and provide them a forum to display their talents in various performing arts.

 
About Sahodaya

Sahodaya, an outreach Programme for the empowerment of the Specially-Abled was started in 2000 to sensitize the staff and the students towards the needs and aspirations of the Specially-Abled. The outreach Programme has been constantly working with groups and institutions catering to the needs of such people. We are proud to say that the Sahodayans have imbibed the spirit of growing together and lending their mite towards empowering people with disabilities even after completion of their studies.
