Puttur: Valedictory function of Philoference-2015 held at St Philomena College

Puttur, 06 Dec 2015: The valedictory function of two-day National Conference, Philoference - 2015’ on the theme ‘Social Innovation and Change Making: A way forward’ under the joint auspices of PG department of social work of St Philomena College, here and Ashoka Innovators for the Public was held at College auditorium here on December 4.
The Correspondent of the College Fr Alfred J Pinto, in his presidential address said, ‘Social innovations seek new answers to social problems by identifying and delivering new services that improve the quality of individuals and communities.’ He also distributed the prizes to the winners in poster making and collage competitions.
In poster making competition, Sowmyashree of St Aloysius (Autonomous) College Mangaluru secured the first prize, Ranjan K R of SDM College, Ujire secured the second prize and Anil Thomas of St Aloysius (Autonomous) College Mangaluru secured the third prize. In collage competition, Shifa Parveen and Prashanthi A of Vivekananda College, Puttur secured the first prize, Sowmyashree and Anil Thomas of St Aloysius (Autonomous) College Mangaluru secured the second prize and Ramya S and Shubha S Joshi of SDM College, Ujire secured the third prize.
Professor Satyajit Majumdar of Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, Shashikumar Velath andYashveer Singh of Ashoka Innovators for the Public participated as resource persons.
On the theme of conference, 21 research papers are presented by research scholars, teachers and PG students of various institutions. Practitioners, faculties and students from Social work, Economics, Management and members of NGOs have participated as delegates.
The co-ordinator of PG studies in social work Professor Prasanna Kumar welcomed the gathering. The convener of the conference Fr Prince C P presented the resolutions of the conference and proposed the vote of thanks. The student co-ordinators Dananjay and Deepika were present on the occasion. Tinu Aleena Bose compered the programme.
