Mumbai: Give due importance to textbooks than facebook: Fr John Rose

Mumbai, 22 Nov 2015: The education is the asset to carve out better future in life. The studies should take prominence than indulgence in Facebook. The discipline in childhood lays strong foundation for future life. The banks play key role in helping the poor students in fulfilling their aspiration for higher education and to be globally competitive, said Fr John Rose, director of Xavier Engineering College, here.
Fr John was the chief guest speaking during the distribution of annual scholarship to deserving students that was organized by Model Co-operative Bank at Xavier Engineering College auditorium, Mahim (West), here on Saturday November 21.
The Bank chairman Albert W D’Souza presided the programme here on Saturday evening.
Speaking on the occasion, Albert said that Mangalurean ancestors of coastal Karnataka established Mangalurean Catholic Co-operative Credit Society over many decades ago in Mumbai with long range plans and was transformed into Model Co-operative Bank and is at the threshold of celebrating centenary. Its competing with other mainstream banks in providing world class banking facilities to the customers besides helping the community students to realize their aspirations of higher education and setting up self employment ventures.
The Bank founder chairman – veteran of co-operative movement John D’Silva, director Thomas D Lobo also spoke on the occasion.
The Bank directors Professor A P D’Souza, Lawrence D’Souza, Lazarus Menezes, Paul Nazareth, Philip L S Pinto, Benedicta Rebello, advocate Pius Vaz and Mariette D’Mello, CEO William L D’Souza were present at the dais.
Albert welcomed the guests with floral bouquet. The additional chief manager Herald M Serrao compered the programme. Ashwini Mathias read out the names of beneficiaries of scholarship. The senior manager Zaner proposed vote of thanks.
