Udupi: Lions Club, Shirva-Manchakal organizes Rural Sports to promote Tulunadu culture

Udupi, 18 Nov 2015: ‘Our ancestors in Tulunadu were cultivating paddy for sustenance and used to organize Kambala – buffaloes race, tug-of-war, running in sited-field that are rural games to entertain them during lull days in monsoon season. Meanwhile, at the changed times, modern technology has been introduced to get higher yield in lesser area of cultivation. Furthermore, Lions Club of Shirva – Manchakal, that has been striving to promote rural sports thereby preserving the distinct Tulunadu culture is indeed noteworthy,’ said state sports minister Abayachandra Jain.
The minister Jain was speaking after inaugurating rural games that was held at Nyarma Hosamane Bakimar paddy field, Shirva, near here on Sunday November 15. It was organized by Lions Club of Shirva – Manchakal, near here.
Lions district governor D Sridar Shenava, deputy governors B Divakar Shetty and A R Ujanappa also spoke on the occasion.
Shirva gram panchayat president Varija Poojary, ZP member Ida Gilbert D’Souza, TP member Krishna Poojary, V Subbayya Hegde, Lions regional president Satish Shetty, Lions district co-ordinator Yermal Sasidar K Shetty, A Shambu Shetty, Ratan Shetty, V T Hegde, programme convener Gregory Fernandes were present.
Lions Club of Shirva – Manchakal president Wilson Rodrigues welcomed the gathering. The secretary Melvyn Aranha proposed vote of thanks. Norbert Machado and Gilbert Pinto compered the programme.
