Mangaluru: Young Professionals invited for World Congress on Disaster Management

Mangaluru, 15 Nov 2015: Two young professionals have been invited as speakers at the 2nd World Congress on Disaster Management (WCDM) to be hosted by the government of Andhra Pradesh at Andhra University, Visakhapatnam from November 19 onwards.
Mangaluru-based public health professional, Dr Edmond Fernandes who is CEO, Center for Health and Development and with the department of community medicine, Yenepoya University and Dr Saurabh Dalal, director of Institute for Disasters, Emergencies and Accidents and former consultant of National Institute of Disaster Management, union ministry of home affairs are among the young professionals speaking at the World Congress.
WCDM will address among others, the interconnected complexities in today’s society. The environmental, technical, social and economic risks are often closely linked and can result in cascading impacts with serious life-changing consequence. The world congress brings together, scientists, policy makers, practitioners and key players from civil society, governments, NGO’s to share knowledge, provide recommendations and share experiences while discussing strategies to be adopted.
Dr Edmond Fernandes will be addressing the World Congress on the theme of Empowering Community participation for creating disaster resilience, while Dr Saurabh Dalal will be speaking on Disaster Health in Emergency.
N Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Deputy Chief Minister, Home and Disaster Management, N China Rajappa, officials from the union ministries, defense personnel, and senior journalists are likely to deliberate at the 2nd World Congress on Disaster Management.
