Mangaluru: New jail to come up in Konaje: Home Minister
Mangaluru, 08 Nov 2015: With the coastal region being jolted by increasing number of crimes and with the Mangaluru prison double murder case still fresh, newly appointed home minister Dr G Parameshwar visited the port city on Sunday and said that an area 40 acres has been identified in Konaje where a jail will be set up as the present jail in Mangaluru is outdated and insufficient.
"We will urge the CM and the Finance Minister to include the same in the next budget," he said adding that issues pertaining to shortage of facilities and personnel too will be tackled soon.
He said that a total of 20 CISF personnel will take charge soon and will be posted outside the prison. Jammers and CCTVs too will be installed in the jail premises.
With regard to the issue of entry of weapons inside the jail to execute the murder of two undertrials inside the jail on November 2, the Home Minister said that the truth will be out once the detailed probe is completed, specifically stating that he spelling out any details on the same would go against the investigation.
