Udupi Diocese level ’Widows Day’ observed at Mount Rosary, Kallianpur

Udupi, 24 Oct 2015: JIVIT, Family life commission of Udupi Diocese organized first time in the history of 14 Catholic diocese of Karnataka held “Widows Day” at Mount Rosary Church here on Friday, 23rd October 2015.
The Widows’ day started with Eucharistic Mass Concelebrated by the His Lordship Most Rev Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo Bishop of Udupi Diocese along with Very Rev Fr. Stany B, Lobo Dean of Kallianpur Deanery and Rector of Milagres Cathedrfal, Very Rev Fr. Fredrick Mascarenhas Dean of Udupi Deanery and Prish Priest of Mother of Sorrows Church, Udupi, Rev. Fr. Chetan Lobo Capuchin Editor of Uzvaad, Udupi Diocese, Rev Fr. Lawrence C. D’Souza Secretasry of CESU, Rev Fr. Fredrick D’Souza of Thottam Church and Rev Fr. Philip Nery Aranha Parish Priest of Mount Rosary Church, Kallianpur.
Fr. Chetan gave beautiful and meaningful homily in relate to the life of widows in our society. Under the leadership of Rev Fr. Mahesh D’Souza, Asst. Parish Priest of Mount Rosary choir supported the Eucharistic celebration with more devotion.
Followed by the Eucharistic mass, reception held at Mount Rosary Millennium Hall which Bishop Gerald Isaac Lobo presided and inaugurated the programme with lighting the lamp. The program started with the prayer dance by Mount Rosary English school students.
Senior most woman of the day, Lucy D’Souza of Manipal parish, Retd. Prof. Alban Rodrigus resource person, Msgr. Edwin Pinto, Rev Fr. Lawrence C. D’Souza, Leslie Aroza Director of Family Life Commission and others were present.
During in his brief message, Bishop pointed out that Catholic Church pass through the family, there is no partial in the family in the sense of role of women in the society. All are equal in the society even though one who widow in the society. Diocese of Udupi need widows for the development of the society and their active role in society. Widows should live happily like before and widows should be taken for granted the opportunities and should live positively in the society. In order to develop and to live actively in the society, widows should form associations.
Leslie Aroza earlier welcomed the gatherings and also at the end of the programme delivered vote of thanks. Alphonse D’Costa Secretary of Diocesan Pastoral Council compered the programme. Around 650 widows of the diocese were present during the occasion.
