Mumbai: 2-Day Eleventh Kannada Sahitya Sammelan under way in metro

Mumbai, 18 Oct 2015: Karnataka has great cultural splendor that is further enriched by Kannadigas settled across Maharashtra. It has been exemplified at eleventh Kannada Sahitya Sammelan that was organized by Kannada Sahitya Parishat – Maharashtra. The Kannadigas settled in metro are indeed honest and experts in sustaining their native culture and promoting Kannada literature, said veteran litterateur and Gamak musician Dr A V Prasanna.
Dr Prasanna was speaking after inaugurating two-day eleventh Kannada Sahitya Sammelan that was organized by Kannada Sahitya Parishat – Maharashtra, in association with Kannada Sahitya Parishat – Bengaluru on Dr Kinhana Rai stage of Dr M M Kalburgi pandal of Geeta Govind auditorium of Gokul, Sion (East) here on Saturday October 17.
Dakshina Kannada district Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Pradeep Kumar Kalkura inaugurated the books exhibition by unveiling the shawl laid on treasure of books on the occasion.
Narayan Amrut Foundatin chairman N R Rao released Kannada books authored by different authors during the programme.
The litterateur and scientist Vyasa Rao Ninjoor, researcher Dr Taltaje Vasant Kumar, litterateur Dr G D Joshi felicitated the Sammelan chairman.
Kannada Sahitya Parishat centenary memorial award recipients Shailaja Hegde (Sanskrit literature), Shyamala Madhav (translated literature), Dr Poornima Srikrishna (research), G Durgaprasad Bhat (Veda studies), Dr Mamata Rao (travelogue), Raksha Madhusudan (theater), Vedamurti Ramachandra Bayari (Vedic rites), H S Poojary (articles), Dr Sahana Poti (music), advocate Amita Bhagawat (poetry), Captain Likhita Girish (pilot), Pooja Devadiga (saxophone), Sridar Ucchil (journalism), S K Sundar (reception literature), Prema Rao (brave woman) were felicitated on the same occasion.
Sunila Devadiga and Ranjani Moily sang Kannada Bhuvaneshwari song. Kannada Sahitya Parishat – Maharashtra unit honor secretary Dr Karunakar S Shetty proposed vote of thanks. Y V Madhusudan Rao and Sasikala Hegde compered the programme.
