Moodubelle, 29 January 2011: While the condition of various roads are quite in a pitiable condition, due to public demand the repair and asphalting of three stretches of roads within Manipura Grama Panchayat jurisdiction was inaugurated on Saturday, 29th January 2011 by the MLA of Kaup Lalaji R Mendon.

The first stretch of road to be asphalted is the Kukkupalke-Marne connection road which was inaugurated by Lalaji R Mendon at 10 am. The ‘Guddhali Poje’ programme was attended by  Hasan Shaikh Ahmed, President of the Manipura Grama Panchayat, Mrs. Ida Gibba D’Souza, newly elected member of the Udupi Zilla Panchayat, Devdas Hebbar, newly elected member of the udupi Taluk Panchayat, Gerald Fernandes, former member of the Udupi Zilla Panchayat, Karunakara Karkera and Mrs. Baby Jathanna-members of the Manipura Grama Panchayat, Subhod Hegde, the contractor and his associates-D.V. Hegde and K.P. Girish and the reporter of the ‘Prajavani’ Kannada news paper and the local resident-Umesh Poojary.

It was chiefly due to the initiative and appeals of Umesh Poojary and the local residents that the asphalting work was undertaken. It is said that since around 35 years, the people of the area have been dreaming of repairing this connecting road. The raod will be redone on a budget of 25 lakhs of rupees made available for the Chief Minister’s Fund on the recommendation of  Lalaji R. Mendon.

The other two stretches of roads whose repairing asphalting work was also inaugurated on 29th January 2011 are: Manipura-kalmanje Road at the cost of 10 lakhs of rupees and Kalmanje Temple Road at the cost of 2 lakhs of rupees.
