Udupi: Catholic Sabha organizes distribution of Manipal Arogya Suraksha Cards

Udupi, 23 Sep 2015: It’s better to take precautions on diseases rather than suffer after becoming a victim of diseases, said state health and family welfare minister U T Khader.
The minister Khader was speaking after distributing Manipal Arogya Suraksha Cards, during annual get-together that was organized by Catholic Sabha Udupi Pradesh and Shirva deanery at Our Lady of Health parish auditorium, Shirva, near here on Sunday September 20.
He further said that one can restrict falling sick by cleanliness and hygiene, consuming pure water and balanced food. The parents got to provide balanced food to their children, added minister Khader.
The state urban development and district-in-charge minister Vinay Kumar Sorake said that Christians have significantly contributed in education and health sphere in India. Mother Theresa’s humanitarian deeds in serving lepers indeed earned her Nobel Prize. The Christians in undivided Dakshina Kannada district also serving the poor and downtrodden in the society, said minister Sorake.
Manipal Arogya Card convener and Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Corporation chairperson Veronica Cornelio said that 12,675 health cards were distributed in 2015, while this year 13,064 cards are in the process of distribution. The benefits under the facilities have been increased this year to Rs 50,000 from Rs 30,000.
The late Denis D’Silva Memorial Award and the late Joseph Mary Pinto scholarship was distributed on the same occasion.
The minister Sorake felicitated the newly-elected gram panchayat office bearers Juliet Veera D’Souza, David D’Souza, and Jitendra Furtado during the programme.
The bishop Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo of Udupi diocese was present at the dais.
Manipal University registrar G K Prabhu, ZP member Ida Gilbert D’Souza, Shirva parish priest Fr Stany Tauro, Shirva parish council vice president Wilson D’Souza, Catholic Sabha Udupi Pradesh former president Kiran Crasto, spiritual director Fr Ferdinand Gonsalves, president William Machado, secretary Alice Rodrigues, treasurer Alwyn Quadros, Shirva deanery president Melvyn Aranha, secretary Leena Machado, treasurer Faustine D’Souza, and others were present.
