Bantwal: Kavi Ghoshti held by ’Progressive Konkani Writers Forum’ in Agrar

Bantwal, 23 Sep 2015: Progressive Konkani Writers Forum conducted its second ‘Kovi Ghoshti’, In an ambience and serene atmosphere of Agrar a special session of Kavi Ghoshti (Konkani Poetry Session) and Kavi Samvaad (Talk/Discussion on poetry/literature) with Panchu Bantwal was held at the beautiful surroundings of Agrar. 

 

Welcoming the all guest poets and local poets, the host Geo D’Silva (also core committee member of the forum) briefed on the objectives of Progressive thinking writers forum for Konkani and the need to take poetry to each region/people. He also mentioned the sole intention of the forum is Konkani literature and its progress.

 

The local reputed poet Francis Saldanha (Known as Panchu Bantwal) was introduced and invited by Geo Agrar to the dais along with Wilson Kateel, who in his talk with Panchu Bantwal, asked several questions related to Konkani poetry, its growth, future plans and overall work in Konkani poetry.

Answering to the questions, Panchu Bantwal shared his experience, and views. He was lavish in his praise to the change in thinking in the present Konkani writers, and those who have been working tirelessly, mentioning the name of Kavitaa Trust (Melwyn Rodrigues). Panchu also shared his initial days in Konkani literature and the guidance he had received from Kevin D’mello on writing short stories, and Melwyn Rodrigues on writing poetry.

 

The poets who took part in the poetry recitation were: Robert Fernandes Agrar, Alwyn Danthy Pernal, Felcy Lobo Derebail, Hilari Lobo Agrar, Naveen Pereira Suratkal, Gilbert Menezes Agrar, Gladis Rego, Geo D’Silva Agrar, Jossy Pinto Kinnigoli, Alphonse Mendonsa Pangla, Daya Victor Lobo, HM Pernal, Joyer Noronha, Andrew L. D’Cunha, Grishma Veigas Modankap, Valley Quadras, Panchu Bantwal, Alwyn Agrar and Wilson Kateel.

 

One of the relevant subjects on poetry was “Yettinahole” based on diversion of Netravati Rivar to North Karnataka. Also the poetry recited on variety of subjects such as Social Issues, Poverty, Love, pain and suffering. It was indeed a memorable time spent listening to the wonderful poems. 

 

During the Samvaad (Talk) Wilson and Panchu Bantwal discussed on various issues related to konkani poetry, overall progress in the last decade or so, how to infuse interest in younger generation, how the progress can be made. Wilson in his unique style introduced each poet through poetry while inviting each poet/s to recite his poetry.

During the feedback session, Fr. Stephen Pereira (Editor – Naman Jezu Ballok), Andrew L. D’Cunha and Ronald Sequeira appreciated the way the poetry session was conducted and they applauded Wilson and Panchu for their commendable job. They also called for regular sessions to be held on poetry sessions and encourage more and more poets to join and use this unique opportunity.


The famous Snake catcher Kiran from Agrar was introduced by Geo who explained how to survive snake biting and catching techniques.

 

The wonderful session concluded with a vote of thanks by Vally Quadras thanking the host family Geo and Kutam for their generous heart in providing the beautiful venue and dinner for all the members.

 

Around 45 participants and poetry lovers took part, the Kovi Ghoshtti followed by sumptuous dinner, hosted by Geo Dsilva and family.
