Mangaluru: MLC Ivan gives clarion call to strive for growth of mother tongue Konkani

Mangaluru, 23 Aug 2015: ‘The youth community had to strive for the growth of mother tongue Konkani. The government need not spend money to encourage people to speak their mother tongue Konkani. The youth got to give up inferiority and speak their mother tongue,’ said MLC Ivan D’Souza.
MLC Ivan was the chief guest, speaking during the valedictory function of Konkani Yuvamahotsav that was organized by Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, in association with different youth organizations of Mangaluru diocese at Kalaangann, Shaktinagar, here on Friday August 21.
The prizes were distributed to the winners of various competitions. Nearly 750 youth of pre-university and degree colleges of undivided Dakshina Kannada district participated in the programme.
The Academy president Roy Castelino in his introductory address called on the youth community to be the ambassadors of Konkani. They have the key responsibility to sustain mother tongue Konkani, said Roy.
The entrepreneur Joseph Mathias, convener Luvi Pinto, Academy registrar Dr Devdas Pai and Eric Ozario were present. The heartfelt tributes were offered for the demise of Academy former president Monsignor Alexander F D’Souza.
Frivita D’Souza and M R Kamat compered the programme. Stany Alvares proposed vote of thanks. Earlier, Roy inaugurated the programme by hoisting the Konkani flag.
The competitions on singing, dance, skit, and poetry were held. Arun D’Souza, Roshan Castelino, Vidhya Kamat, Praveen Pinto, Denis D’Silva, Lawrence D’Souza, Preeti Lopes and others assisted in the events.
