Mangaluru: Konkani Sahitya Academy pays rich tributes to Msgr Alexander

Mangaluru, 23 Aug 2015: Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy paid rich tribute to Monsignor Alexander F D’Souza, the former president of Academy and former director of Mangaluru diocesan ICYM, during Konkani Yuva Mahotsav held at Kalaangann, Shaktinagar, here on Friday August 21.
The renowned Konkani poet and entrepreneur Titus Noronha in his condolence message said, ‘Monsignor Alexander was instrumental in introducing the first ever mother tongue, Konkani liturgical service in Mangaluru diocese, adhering to recommendations of II Vatican Council to celebrate liturgical service in different mother tongues. Both the former bishop late Basil D’Souza and Monsignor Alexander were the harbingers who strived for sustaining Konkani,’ said Titus.
Konkani-speaking community is ever grateful to Monsignor Alexander for his extraordinary contributions to Mangaluru diocese and to Konkani, added Titus.
The Academy president Roy Castelino, registrar Dr Devdas Pai, Academy members Lullus Cutinha, entrepreneur and singer Joseph Mathias, Eric Ozario, Luvi Pinto, Roshan Castelino, Stany Alvares, M R kamat, Smita Shenoy, Christopher D’Souza and youth offered floral tributes.
