Puttur: St Philomena Edu Institutions hold rally to create awareness on civic issues

Puttur, 21 Aug 2015: Suraksha Consumer Forum, NSS, Rovers Rangers and Eco Club of St Philomena College, St Philomena Pre-University College, in association with city council and Rotary Club Puttur organized a rally to create awareness on consumerism, environment and health here on Thursday August 20.
The inaugurator of the rally Commissioner of the Puttur City Muncipal Council, Rekha J Shetty speaking on the occasion said, ‘The cleaning programme should be throughout the municipality. This is the first initiative taken in ward no 17 and I hope this will spread to the other wards also.’
The Principal of the College Professor Leo Noronha, St Philomena PU College principal Fr Vijay Lobo, the Councilor of ward number 17 Vinaya Bhandary, PTA president Ganesh Rao, Alumni Association president JayaKumar Rai, Rotary Club Puttur president M G Rafeeq were present.
Fr Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, campus director conveyed best wishes to the participants.
The rally which began from the college ended at DKZP Higher Primary School Parladka. The students in the rally distributed pamphlets, displayed banners, sang environmental songs and shouted slogans.
The students visited as many as 300 houses of ward number 17 and created environmental awareness. With the support of municipal council, the students have also installed pipe composting apparatus in majority of the houses.
Professor Dinakara Rao, the convener of Suraksha Consumer Forum, NSS officers Nagaraju and Geetha Poornima, the conveners of Rovers and Rangers Professor Meenakshi and Khalander Sharif, the conveners of Eco Club Rakshitha and Shashi Prabha, lecturer of department of Political Science - Bharath K were present.
