Udupi: ICYM Shirva Deanery organizes Yuva Samagam & Konkani Manyata Divas

Udupi, 19 Aug 2015: ICYM unit of Shirva deanery organized Yuva Samagam and Konkani Manyatha Divas at Our Lady of Health parish auditorium, Shirva, near here on Sunday August 16.
Bishop Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo of Udupi diocese inaugurated the programme.
Bishop Dr Lobo in his presidential address stressed on the power of youth.
Udupi diocesan ICYM president William Machado was the chief guest.
William spoke about careers for youth that could enable them to make bright future.
Shirva parish priest Fr Stany Tauro, correspondent of St Mary’s education institutions and Don Bosco education institutions Fr Anil Castelino, Udupi diocesan ICYM director Fr Edwin D’Souza, ICYM diocesan president Derrick Mascarenhas, member Joyson Furtado, ICYM Shirva deanery president Avil Saldanha and secretary Jyotsna Menezes were present at the dais.
Avil D’Souza welcomed the gathering. Jeenal Saldanha compered the programme.
The first seminar session was taken up by Fr Vijay Victor Lobo, director of Sandesha Lalit Kala Academy, Mangaluru. He and spoke about Impact of Media on Youth.
Eucharistic Mass was celebrated by Fr Paul Rego, director of ICYM Shirva deanery.
Ice breaking games were conducted by the diocese council members. In order to promote Konkani tradition and for celebrating Konkani Manyatha Divas, Konkani dance competition was held during the afternoon session.
Shirva deanery vicar Fr Stany Tauro presided the valedictory function on Sunday evening.
Fr Paul Rego, Fr Edwin D’Souza, Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy president Roy Castelino were the chief guests fo the occasion.
Shirva parish council vice president Wilson D’Souza and the diocesan council members were present at the dais.
Speaking on the occasion, Roy urged the youth to love Konkani tradition that has been inherited from ancestors.
The prizes were distributed to the winners of dance competitions. Giselle Lewis and Nishal were the jurors of competitions.
The winners were - Pamboor unit (first), Pangala unit (second) and Mudarangady unit (third)
Roy gave away the prizes to the winners in ice breaking games.
Rovin Castelino compered the programme.
The programme was concluded with singing ICYM anthem.
