Mumbai: I-Day celebrations at St Lawrence High School/Ryan Christian School, Borivali (W)

Mumbai, 16 Aug 2015: With great national  fervor and grandeur, St Lawrence High School and Ryan Christian School, Borivali (West) joined the nation in celebrating the 69th Independence Day. Hoisting of the national flag, impressive march- past, spectacular cultural programme and prize distribution were the distinctive features of the celebration.

 

Lieutenant Ajit Sogarwal of INS Hamla accompanied by Agnel  Pinto of India Airlines and Biren Prajapati, vice president of Deushe Bank, hoisted the national flag, the school choir sang the national anthem and ‘Zhanda Geet‘ in tow. The grand parade of 20 squard of RSP, Scouts and Guides, Red Cros, Lawrence Commandos led by the toy- band of by the tiny - tots of  Pre – Primary section electrified the atmosphere as they marched in unison to the tunes of the school band.

 

Presence of teacher and students in tri – colour outfits and artistic decoration of the school with tri – colour hanging lamps, festoons, buntings and huge rosettes perfectly complemented to the spirit of patriotism pervading in the  ambience of  the school.

The cultural extravaganza got off with the reading from the holy  Bible and mellifluous songs of Praise and worship by the school choir and all the students joining them in singing with exuberance. The significance of national integration in a diverse country like ours was aesthetically portrayed through the dance ‘Aashaien.‘ A numbers of  patriotic songs accompanied with dance by the colorfully attired students enthralled the audience. The musical display by the school band with synchronous formation of different patterns mesmerized everyone. Lezim performed by the students of Class V was received with loud cheer. Formation of eye–popping four tier human pyramid by the students kindled the spirit of bravery among the audience.

 

The cultural programme was punctuated with speeches recounting the sacrifice and velour of our freedom fighter from Mahatma Gandhi to Mangal Pandey and from Netaji Subhash Bose to Bhagat Singh. Beside paying their tributes to the freedom fighter, students paid their rich tribute to the People’s President Dr Abdul Kalam.

 

Along with students achieving excellence in scholastic and co–scholastic activities, the football team was felicitated for their outstanding achievement. The large number of guests hailing from different walks of  life who graced the occasion was in praise for both the schools for their Independence Day celebration in such grandeur and the schools efforts in bringing all-round development of each child under the mentorship of Dr A F Pinto, chairman of the schools and Grace Pinto, managing director of  the  Schools.

 

The melodious closing chorus by the school choir brought the finale to the celebration that will  be long treasured for the spirit of patriotism kindled though  this national festival.
