Udupi: I-Day Celebration at Rotary Shankerapura

Udupi, 16 Aug 2015: Sixty-ninth Independence Day was celebrated by Rotary Club Shankerpura in front of the Rotary Centenary Bhavan on Saturday August 15 at 8.30am by hoisting national flag along with the members of Inner Wheel and Nagarika Samithi, Shankerpura.
The chief guest on this occasion was Clara Mendonca, head teacher of St John’s High School, Shankerapura. Rotary Club – Shankarapura president Clifford D’Mello welcomed the gathering. Dr Edward Lobo introduced the chief guest.
Francis D’Sa, zonal Lieutenant, zone III and Club secretary Anil D’Sa was present.
The Rotarians in large number in white shirt and with traditional Gandhi cap lined-up in front of the flagpole along with members of other organisations.
Clara Mendonca in her brief Independence Day message reminded the supreme sacrifices made by our national leaders to liberate our country from colonial rule. She said, now it is our duty to build our nation with available resources and manpower. She lauded the good work being carried-out by the Rotarians of Rotary Shankerpura for the benefit of poor and needy people of the rural area, specially the medical camps for psychiatric patients and Talent Hunt competitions for school children.
The programme was concluded by singing national anthem followed by vote of thanks by Ivy D’ Souza, secretary of Inner Wheel Club.
The sweets were sponsored and distributed to all by Sameera Rebello, president of Inner Wheel, Shankerpura on the occasion of her birthday.
