Puttur: I-Day celebrations at St Philomena College

Puttur, 16 Aug 2015: Sixty-ninth Independence Day was celebrated at St Philomena College, here at the College campus by hoisting the national flag by the principal, Professor Leo Norohna followed by guard of honor and parade.
The marching contingents of NCC were at their best under the guidance of the NCC officer Johnson David Sequeira. The parade was led by the Parade Commander Senior Under Officer Aniketan Roy D’Souza of l B Com. The members of Rovers-Rangers Unit of the College have participated in the Parade under the guidance of Khalander Sharif. The college band did a wonderful job, playing the martial tunes which added colour to the entire show.
Addressing the gathering the Professor Leo Noronha said that Independence Day is an auspicious day for all of us. It is an important day to all the citizens because on 15th August 1947 our country became free from the British rule. We should remember with pride all those freedom fighters who gave us a land of peace. We have great responsibilities towards our nation. We all should be proud to be an Indian and admire our fortune to be a citizen of this great country.
Fr Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, campus director said, ‘India is our mother country and we are its citizens. We should work for the betterment of country. It is our responsibility to lead our country.’
On this historical occasion there were patriotic songs, skit and dances which displayed the spirit of the patriotism towards the country.
Fr Vijay Lobo, principal of St Philomena PU College along with staff members and students participated in the programme. Nancy Laveena Pinto, lecturer of social work compered the programme.
