Bantwal: Robbery attempt on areca trader in broad daylight at Vittal

Bantwal, 08 Aug 2015: A group of youth tried to rob an areca merchant by throwing chilly powder at BSNL office Road in Vittal, near here on Friday August 7, when he was on his way to his shop.
Manoor Jagdish Kamat is an areca merchant who has a shop in Aramane Road, Vittal, near here. He used to travel from his home in Bantwal to Vittal daily.
It has been a routine for Jagdish to drive his Toyota Qualis along with his brother Vittaldas Kamat to their shop in Vittal and park the vehicle nearby Ananteshwar temple.
Both brothers were on their way to their shop in Vittal on Friday morning and observed a Maruti 800 car that was following them from Kalladka – Mangilapadav, but ignored them.
The car overtook them at Bobbekeri petrol pump, Vittal. Jagdish parked his quails and both brothers were out on the road, when the youth threw chilly powder and snatched the bag from Jagdish’s hand.
The group fled in their car as soon as they got the bag that they believed contained cash. Meanwhile, Jagdish’s brother Vittaldas who was holding the money bag ran inside the temple as the youth brandished swords.
Vittal police registered a case of dacoity and formed special team led by Vittal sub-inspector. The investigations are under way.
The traders and general public are apprehensive over the robbery attempt in the broad daylight.
