Mangaluru: Breastfeeding Awareness programme held at Shaktinagar

Mangaluru, 05 Aug 2015: At the joint aegis of Dakshina Kannada district legal services Authority, Bar Association, child welfare department and Prajna Counseling Center, an aware programme on breastfeeding and its importance was held at Anganawady center, Padav, Shaktinagar, here on Tuesday August 4.
DK district legal services Authority member secretary senior civil judge Ganesha B after inaugurating the programme said that its irony that the women who are lured into modernity are causing health complications for themselves and their babies by not breastfeeding. The baby grows healthy by consuming breast milk in the infancy stage. It would facilitate the mother in keeping the reproductive organs healthy. It’s a god given gift to women to bear child, and the responsibility lies in her to grow baby healthy to become a responsible future citizen. Otherwise, the baby would be undernourished and growth is shunted. It’s distressing that the women are lured by the advertisements in media, to feed them with baby foods.
The advocate Sumana Sharn was the chief guest appealed to the women to breastfeed their babies for the first 6 months of being born. It would have health benefits to the mother as well, said Sumana.
The child welfare project officer Gulabi presided the programme.
Theresa, women health assistant, Padav, Shaktinagar was the resource person.
Bar Association secretary H V Raghavendra, Kuvempu Model Higher Primary School head teacher Udayakumari, Padav Friends Club convener Ashok Nayak was present.
