Vittal: Hiking height of vented dam - Hasiru Sene activists wage struggle to save land

Vittal, 27 Jul 2015: We would not let our lands to be acquired by the government for any purpose. We should be given a chance to live and die in our ancestral lands, said Karnataka state Raita Sangha Hasiru Sene honorary advisor Muruva Mahabala Bhat.
Bhat was speaking after flagging-off the farmers’ awareness campaign at Nandavar, Panemangaluru, here on Sunday July 26.
He further said, ‘We have right to live in our lands. The government should not drive us to the street. We got to oppose the eviction of farmers living along the banks of lifeline Netravati River that is believed to be created by contemporary sage Parasuram,’ said Bhat.
Karnataka state Raita Sangha Hasiru Sene Dakshina Kannada district Committee executive president Sridar Shetty Bailaguttu said the state notification states that 1,083 acres of land will be submerged in an event the height of the dam is increased to 7 meters to supply water to Mangaluru city. It would be at the cost of rural farmers and for the luxury of city folks. Its better the city folks come to rural villages to live, said Shetty.
