Bantwal: Food inspectors’ raid grocery shop at Punjalkatte; seize grains sold by BPL families

Bantwal, 24 Jul 2015: The officials of food and civil supplies raided a grocery shop located at Punjalkatte, near here on Thursday July 23, on the basis of complaint on selling government supplied free nutritious food meant for pregnant women.
The officials seized rice supplied by state for public distribution under Annabhagya Scheme and also wheat from the shop.
The food and civil supplies deputy director M R Bhat led officials raided Gopalakrishna Traders, Punjalkatte, here on the basis of the complaint that the free nutritious food packets supplied by Anganawadis to pregnant women are being sold at the shop. The officials seized 2 packets of nutritious food, 24 kgs of rice and 25 kgs of wheat meant for BPL families under Annabhagya Scheme.
It’s suspected that the grains supplied to BPL families are sold to the shopkeeper. The police registered a case on shopkeeper Vivek Pai. Bantwal taluk food inspector Srinivas and Sirestedar Vasu Shetty were involved in this operation.
