Mangaluru: Farmers intensify struggle against proposed ISPRL pipeline in DK

Mangaluru, 21 Jul 2015: Dakshina Kannada district Jan Jagruti Samiti convened a meeting of people living in 17 villages of Dakshina Kannada district, who are waging struggle against the proposed ISPRL pipeline, at Lions Club, Suratkal, here on Monday July 20. The social activists Gregory Patrao and Munir Katipalla expressed their support in their struggle.

Jan Jagruti Samiti convener Chittaranjan Bhandary appealed to the fellowmen not to become victims of malicious acts by ISPRL authorities who are luring the people with the assurances of higher compensation than offered by KIADB.

 

 

Mangaluru taluk Jan Jagruti Samiti president Krishnaprasad Rai said that he will continue legal struggle in order to bring amendment to Land Acquisition Act of 1962.

 

The social activist Gregory Patrao said that the farmlands acquired from farmers at pittance of money will be sold to industries for crore of rupees. KIADB officials are cheating the people with false information. One got to seek info under Right to Information Act to expose the bogus claims.

 
Soorinje gram panchayat former president Vineet Shetty said the politicians are visiting the families of farmers after committing suicide, had they heard their grievances the precious lives of farmers would have been saved. ISPRL pipeline issue is likely to drive the farmers to commit mass suicides as they face the imminent threat to their plantations and farms. 
 
The legal advisor Jagdish Rao and Pushparaj Shetty Madya was present at the dais. The members of 12 gram panchayats, former presidents and vice presidents, farmers were present.
 
The journalist Jayaram Sriyan Suratkal advised future course of action on the issue. Sridar Shetty Kuttettoor welcomed the gathering.
