Mumbai, 20 Jul 2015: Although Brits ruled India for a few centuries, they were influenced by Indian culture. Alas! We have disregarded our contemporary culture and are chasing the lost treasure for some unknown pleasure. We forget our rich heritage. Indian culture goes along with environmental conservation. The nature is part of our culture that thrives when nature flourishes, said renowned theater artiste – Mysore Association Mumbai® trustee K Manjunatayya.
Manjunatayya was the chief guest speaking during the conferring of Karki Venkataramana Shastry Suri Award – 2015 by Havyaka Welfare Trust Mumbai® in association with Karnataka Malla, Kannada daily, at Havyaka auditorium located in Deepti Solitaire Building, Ghatkopar (West) here on Sunday July 19.
Havyaka Welfare Trust president N R Hegde presided the programme. Kannadiga Patrakartara Sangha Maharashtra® president Chandrashekar Palettady was the guest of honour.
The environmentalist and renowned social activist Panduranga Hegde was conferred with Karki Venkataramana Shastry Suri Award – 2015 on the occasion.
Chandrashekar in his introductory address said that Karki Venkataramana Shastry was the pioneer of Kannada journalism in Mumbai and also founder of first Kannada printing house. The amount of award is less significant when compared to the greatness of Shastry. It’s tragic that the Karnataka state government has forgotten its dear Kannadiga Shastry. The struggle for survival of Kannada journalism and sustain memory of Shastry in Mumbai is commendable. Its also irony that Kannada journalism has forgotten the pioneer Shastry, said Chandrashekar.
Panduranga Hegde in acknowledgement to the Award said water, air and light are provided by Mother Nature, while one has to judiciously utilize the natural resources. The environmental conservation is the responsibility of everyone. Appiko is not a campaign, it’s symbolical, said Panduranga.
N R Hegde in his presidential address urged the people to follow Indian culture, love environment and contribute for nation building.
