Udupi: Basic infrastructure essential for scientific research - Minister Sorake

Udupi, 20 Jul 2015: Thousands of talented people from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts have earned name and fame in India and overseas. Udupi district has given the toppers from SSLC to IAS. If the student scientists get opportunities, they can make new inventions. It was proposed to set up Science Research Center in Belapu, near here @ Rs 1.41 crore in this regard. The basic infrastructure is essential for scientific research, said state urban development and Udupi district-in-charge minister Vinay Kumar Sorake.
The minister Sorake was speaking after inaugurating Udupi district level science models competition for higher primary and high school students to confer Inspire Award at Madwa Vadiraja Engineering College, Bantakal, near here on Sunday July 19.
The minister Sorake lauded the vision of founders of Madwa Vadiraja Engineering College in rural area of Bantakal near here.
MP Shobha Karandlaje was the chief guest said that although India is a developing nation, it still depends on global suppliers for defence equipments, machineries. The need of the hour is to indigenously develop the technology for all our needs. The inventions should be a continuous process. India will be self sufficient in technology, when the future scientists work in this regard keeping the ideals of Abdul Kalam. Both union and state governments are supportive in this regard, while the teachers and parents got to encourage the future scientists, said MP Shobha.
Udupi ZP president Savita Shivanand Kotian presided the programme.
Speaking on the occasion Savita said that scientific thoughts instilled in students during the early schooling will give fillip to creating stronger nation.
ZP member Ida Gilbert D’Souza, TP member Krishna Poojary, Shirva gram panchayat president Varija Poojarti, The Engineering College director Dr Radhakrishna S Ithal was present at the dais.
DIET deputy director for developments and principal Shekar welcomed the gathering. The vice principal Chandrashekar, Tingale Vikramarjuna Hegde was present. Inspire Award nodal officer Jahnavi proposed vote of thanks.
Over 1,192 students from different schools across the district are partaking in the science model competitions that will conclude on July 24.
It was organized by union ministry of science and technology, Karnataka public instruction department, directorate of education research and training and DIET.
