Farangipet landslide: Tracing family of Bangladeshi victims becomes challenge
Mangaluru, 18 Jul 2015: The dead bodies of two of the Farangipet landslide victims are still in the mortuary of Wenlock Hospital in Mangaluru as the relatives of the two have not been traced.
Three workers Tariqulla, Milon and Maimilon had died on the work site after a hillock caved in on July 14.
While it was confirmed that Tariqulla was from West Bengal, there were suspicions raised over the origin of Milon and Maimilon and preliminary investigations strongly hinted that the two were Bangladeshi immigrants.
On the other hand, Safiqulla, another Bangladeshi who survived the incident has been booked and nabbed by Bantwal police.
During investigation, the cops have found that Shafiqulla does not possess any vital documents like the passport or visa. All the three Bangladeshis had joined construction work here in the region about 6 months ago and when the landslide happened, the workers tried to mislead the police stating that they were all from West Bengal.
Superintendent of Police Dr Sharanappa said that more details are being dug out about Shafiqulla.
He said that the Indian Embassy has been contacted over this issue, but there has been no reply from them.
The two dead bodies will be handed over to their relatives, once they are contacted. Since there is no deadline to dispose off the dead body, it can be kept in the morgue for 6 months.
