First postal ATM inaugurated in Pandeshwar head post office
Mangaluru, 11 Jul 2015: Diversifying its services, the post department inaugurated its first Postal ATM at Pandeshwar Head Post office, on Friday. MP Nalin Kumar Kateel inaugurated the ATM.
Addressing the gathering South Karnataka Region Post Master General Shirthady Rajendra Kumar said that the facilities of the ATM can be availed by Post office savings bank account holders in the district and the ATM cards will be issued only on request. Interoperability services will be enabled shortly, helping the customers use the ATM across India.
The department has plans to open the second ATM at Kulshekar in the city, however, the Department of Posts has decided to set up 1,000 ATMs in first phase.
Out of this 126 locations are operationalized in India. Karnataka Circle was allotted 76 ATMs in first phase and the first ATM Karnataka Postal Circle at Bengaluru GPO was inaugurated by the Communication and IT minister Ravishakar Prasad in April this year. Subsequently, ATMs at Basavanagudi, Kalaburgi, Dharawad and Mysuru HO have also been made operational.
