Mangaluru: Konkani Club launched at Nalyapadav Govt High School, Shaktinagar

Mangaluru, 09 Jul 2015: Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy launched its first Konkani Club of 2015 – 16 at Nalyapadav Government High School, Shaktinagar, here on Wednesday July 8.

 

The local corporator Akhila Alva after inaugurating Konkani Club said, ‘the Club is helpful to learn a new language and to promote brotherhood,’ said Akhila. 

 

DIET principal Cyprian Monteiro after handing over Konkani books to School library said, ‘Nalyapadav Government High School got the first opportunity to launch Konkani Club in Dakshina Kannada district. The knowing many languages in childhood creates interest in other languages as they grow up,’ said Cyprian.

 

 

Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy president Roy Castelino said that Konkani is a classical language in India, while granting permission to begin Konkani classes by the state government opened new avenues for native Konkani students to study in their own mother tongue. Konkani Clubs are launched to create interest among the students in Konkani studies, said Roy.

 

The Academy member Lawrence D’Souza, head teachers Vijaya Kumari and Udaya Kumari, Konkani teacher Sylvia Lobo were present.

 

The Academy registrar Dr B Devdas Pai welcomed the gathering. The teacher Shivaram Acharya proposed vote of thanks. Vitori Karkal compered the programme.

 

Jyotika and Milton were appointed as president and secretary of Konkani Club.

 

Konkani Clubs are being launched in selected schools to hold 6 events in a year to create awareness on Konkani and its studies among the students.
