Yasin Bhatkal calls wife, hints at escaping from prison soon
New Delhi/Hyderabad, 04 Jul 2015: Intelligence agencies are on high alert after intercepting a phone call made by jailed Indian Mujahideen chief Yasin Bhatkal to his wife Zahida, who lives in Southeast Delhi’s Jamia Nagar.
Speaking from within the Hyderabad jail premises, Bhatkal is heard telling his wife that he would be soon escaping from prison with help of certain people in Damascus.
The five minute conversation between Bhatkal and his wife has left security forces in a tizzy, wondering if he is referring to the Islamic State(IS), which has now emerged as one of the most brutal terror outfits with control over large parts of Syria.
It is a major worry for security forces if the terror outfit is looking to spread its hold in India. Recently many incidents of IS flags being raised in the Kashmir Valley have emerged.
Intelligence agencies believe the IS could take support from Ansar-ul-Tawhid Fi Bilad Al Hind (AuT), the terror group which mainly consists of ex-IM operatives.
Coincidentally Yasin Bhatkal happens to be co-founder of IM and has carried out several terror attacks in the country before his arrest.
Bhatkal, who was involved in several bombings across the country is presently lodged in the Cherlapally central prison on the outskirts of Hyderabad. The prison has,in the past, seen several instances of mobile phones, SIM cards and pen drives being recovered from inmates.
The conversation has raised question at the larger issue of security lapse inside the high-security cell where, the IM top operative is believed to have been contacting people using cellphone.
Sources said Bhatkal had also made numerous calls to several other numbers across several states. However, he could not talk to the people whom he had tried contacting.
