Mangaluru: Airport taxi drivers allegedly harass passenger, Ola cab driver

 

Mangaluru, 15 Jun 2015: In a shameful incident reported from the Mangalore International Airport (MIA) on Friday, June 12, a woman passenger was allegedly harassed and abused by a bunch of airport taxi drivers as she preferred an Ola cab over the airport taxis.

 

A complaint in this regard has been filed in the women’s police station on Sunday, June 14.

 

The woman, who is an IT professional, had been to Bengaluru on June 10. She had to come back home within the next two days as she learnt that her father-in-law was unwell and he wanted to see her. She reached MIA at around 4 pm and was walking towards the Ola cab which was waiting for her. To her dismay, she saw a gang of airport taxi drivers harassing the Ola driver. In the complaint, it is stated that they snatched the cab key from the driver and chased him away. A source said that they also assaulted him. Later, the taxi drivers began chasing the woman and hurled abuses at her. They warned her not to choose any cabs other than the airport taxis and added that they were backed by the airport authority and Bajpe police in this regard.

 

She somehow managed to get into an auto-rickshaw and reached home. Minutes before she reached, her father-in-law had breathed his last.

 

The woman, in her complaint, has sought an inquiry against the Director of Airport Authority, Mangaluru for lapse of duties and responsibilities.

 

When contacted, the MIA Director told Udayavani English that he was clueless about the incident. It may be recalled that the MIA was recently rated the second best airport in the country in terms of customer satisfaction.
