Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa’s assets more than double in four years

Chennai, 06 June 2015: Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa’s assets have increased more than double in four years, from Rs 51.40 crore in 2011 to Rs 117.13 crore at present,according to an affidavit she filed on Friday along with her nomination papers for the R K Nagar byelection.
When she filed the affidavit in Srirangam for the 2011 assembly elections, she had movable and immovable assets worth Rs 51.40 crore.
The present affidavit shows that the AIADMK chief has movable assets worth Rs 45.04 crore and immovable assets worth Rs 72.09 crore.
Her Poes Garden residence in Chennai covered one third of the worth of her declared assets. She has estimated that the 10 ground land with a built-up area of 21,662 square feet is worth Rs 43.96 crore. She purchased the property in 1967 for Rs 1.32 lakh.
Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa is AIADMK’s candidate in the Radhakrishnan Nagar (R K Nagar) constituency in North Chennai is getting ready for the by-election on June 27.
In the 25 pages affidavit, Jayalalithaa said she had deposited Rs 9.80 crore in various banks.
She had invested Rs 31.68 crore in five firms, including Jaya Publications and Kodanadu Estate, as a partner.
She has nine vehicles which have a total a market value of Rs 42.25 lakh.
Gold articles weighing 21kg and 280grams and silver articles weighing 1250kg, seized in connection with the disproportionate assets case, were lying in the treasury of the Karnataka government. Their value could not be ascertained, she said.
Jayalalithaa has no dependents.
