Udupi: Retired police officer B J Bhandary dies in road mishap
Udupi, 01 Jun 2015: Former DySP and President’s medal winner B J Bhandary died in a road mishap in Brahmavar on Monday, June 1.
According to sources, Bhandary was crossing the road near Hotel Ashraya in Brahmavar while a speeding car knocked him down. Bhandary who sustained grievous injuries was shifted to Manipal Hospital where he breathed his last in the noon.
B J Bhandary who hailed from Belthangady taluk joined the police department in 1979 and served as deputy superintendent of police (DySP) in District Crime Record Bureau (DCRB).
Bhandary had also served as an assistant commissioner of police (ACP) in Mangaluru apart from serving in Mandya, Bengaluru, Chickmagalur, City Crime Bureau (CCB), State Intelligence and Lokayukta department.
He was a recipient of Chief Minister’s medal twice in 1991 and 2007. Recognising his service, the government had conferred him with President’s medal in 2011.
He had also formed ‘Retired Police Officers’ Association’ which is touted as the first such initiative in the district formed for the welfare of former police officers in the region.
The funeral will be held on Tuesday, June 2 at his native.
