M’luru: DK district has total of 1,212 polling centers, out of which 183 are sensitive - DC

Mangaluru, 23 May 2015: Under Dakshina Kannada (DK) district - the general elections will be held on Friday May 29 for a total of 1,212 polling centers in 227 gram panchayats for 3,399 posts, while 378 polling centers are identified as sensitive, 183 most sensitive and 54 polling centers are naxal affected, said DK district Deputy Commissioner and district electioneering officer A B Ibrahim.  He also urged the officers to take appropriate measures for a free and impartial voting without scope for any confusion.
 
Deputy Commissioner Ibrahim was speaking here on Saturday May 23 during the meeting of election officers, Tahsildars and heads of different departments who will be assigned election duties for the forthcoming general elections for gram panchayats.  

 

 
There are 7,619 candidates at the final round, among them 508 belongs to SC and 445 are SC women, 935 belongs to backward classes, 195 belongs to backward classes B, 1,521 are women candidates belong to general category, altogether 3,604 are women. Similarly, 159 candidates belong to SC, 91 candidate belongs to ST, 767 candidates belongs to backward classes, 221 candidates belongs to backward class B, 2,777 candidate belongs to general category; altogether 4,015 candidates will be contesting in the general elections, said ADC Sadashiv Prabhu.
 
The vote counting of Mangaluru taluk will be held at Padua High School, Nantoor; the vote counting of Bantwal taluk will be held at Infant Jesus English School, Modankap; the vote counting of Beltangady taluk will be held at SDM PU College, Ujire; the vote counting of Puttur taluk will be held at Vivekanand English Medium High School, Tenkila; the vote counting of Sullia taluk will be held at Nehru Memorial College, Sullia on Friday June 5, informed ADC Prabhu.
 
All the precautionary measures are being taken to hold free and impartial elections, besides special protection force will be assigned to guard polling centers located in sensitive, extremely sensitive and naxal affected areas, said SP Dr Sharanappa.
 
ZP CEO P I Srividya, DCP Vishnuvardhan, election observers P L Jyotindra and Malleshayya provided info on maintaining code of conduct during the elections and necessary actions to be taken for fair and free elections.
