M’luru: District Journalists take a day off for sports meet in city

Mangaluru, 20 Apr 2015: Dakshina Kannada district working journalists Association organized Journalists sports meet in association with Mangaluru Press Club and Patrika Bhavan Trust, at St Aloysius College grounds, here on Sunday April 19.
 
The state sports and youth services minister K Abayachandra Jain after inaugurating the sports meet said that the sports indeed relieves physical and mental pressure. The government officers who are enthusiastic about sports will be appointed to create a pro-sports environment in the state and also provided with necessary supplies of sports equipments, said minister Jain. 
 
The physical training instructors of 200 state-run education institutions will be assigned the task of overseeing the maintenance of respective taluk and district stadiums. A meeting will be held with CM in this regard to issue the order at the earliest. The state has 30 district stadiums and 175 taluk stadiums, while a pro-sports environment will be created through these stadiums, added minister Jain.

ASP S Murugan was the chief guest, said that sports is essential to maintain health and enjoyment. The journalists in Dakshina Kannada are faster in gathering info than police force. The peoples’ representatives and journalists are judiciously discharging their social obligation, said Murugan.
 
Udayavani, Kannada daily Mangaluru bureau chief Manohar Prasad and DK working journalists Association general secretary Srinivas Indaje were present.
 
The former Indian armed personnel and sports trainer Laxman Rai, swimmer Manohar Prabhu, shot-put athlete Saakshi Kundapur were felicitated on the same occasion.
 
Mangaluru Press Club treasurer Venu Vinod introduced the sports achievers.
 
The cricket team of DK working journalists Association that bagged runner up in state level journalists cricket tourney held at Madikeri in association with Kodagu working journalists Association in association with Karnataka working journalists Association was honored during the programme.  
 
DK district working journalists Association president Jagannat Shetty welcomed the gathering and presided the programme. 
 
Patrika Bhavan Trust chairman B Ravindra Shetty delivered the introductory address. Mangaluru Press Club president Ramakrishna R proposed vote of thanks. The senior journalist P B Harish Rai compered the programme.
